About the PhD programme

Civil Engineering Department of AIKTC has a PhD programme in Civil Engineering with 10 sanctioned intake, which is fully functional since 2017 with an overwhelming response. Apart from approved guides/supervisors in diverse civil engineering domains, AIKTC has a modern research lab with state-of-the art research facilities. It is one of the most sought after research institute under Mumbai university.

A PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) is a doctoral research degree and the highest level of academic qualification one can achieve. It normally takes between three to four years of full-time work to complete a PhD programme. A masters degree in Civil Engineering and either a valid PhD entrance Test (PET) score of Mumbai university or a valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score is essential to be registered as a PhD candidate.

Addmission Guideline

The admissions to PhD are conducted generally in the second half of the year (post-July). To begin with, the process for applying to the PhD programme involves writing a strong research proposal. This is followed by personal interviews conducted jointly by a university panel and the institute management. Once selected and offered a seat, a prospective candidate can accept the offer and confirm his/her admission by completing the admission formalities.

Once a student is enrolled for PhD, he/she needs to undertake a course work comprising of 3 courses and a credit seminar. It is important to complete the coursework within stipulated time-frame, and subsequently apply for topic approval and registration to the university as a PhD candidate.

During PhD, a candidate needs to carry out original research and has to present his progress bi-annually in the form of 6-monthly progress seminars. These seminars are gauged by university and/or industry experts. It is important to publish the work in refereed journals and/or apply for patent for innovative works during the course of PhD. This is an important recognition, which is essential towards successful completion of the PhD programme. AIKTC has a strong plagiarism check mechanism and a robust plagiarism policy in order to deter any unfair means from being adopted in research.
